Golfers and Supporters
The Fourth Annual Captain Caps Charity Golf Tournament was a memorable day and another huge success! We had a fabulous turnout of 216 golfers and raised a record amount. Tailwinds of Hope raised nearly $41,000. With that amount we will be able to fund more scholarships and most importantly be able to endow the scholarship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The day started off with breakfast and putting for the whiskey contest and continued through the ceremonies before we sent the golfers off for the day.
Our Title Sponsor Farmers Insurance-Kelly Stetka Agency started the tournament with the Hawaiian theme on Hole One with the ukulele players, flower leis for every golfer and the golf cart decorated with the Hawaiian theme. That set the example for the Dress Like Zach theme. We had so many other teams that dressed and decorated as well making it difficult to judge who was the best dressed team. It was a huge success so thank you! All the activities on the golf course were a great success and helped us reach the record amount raised.
In addition to the tournament we hosted a food drive to support Growing Home, a local Westminster non-profit food pantry. With the generosity of our golfers, sponsors and community, we were able to collect over 600 lbs. of non-perishable food items to stock Growing Home's Food Pantry. We want to express how much your generosity on this spectacular day makes a difference in accomplishing our mission.
Congratulations to the Top Three Teams for the Tournament
1st Place- Jim Trott, Robert Bell, Jason Virzi and Dustin Jacoby.
2nd Place- James Rau, Shane Webster, Don Watson, and Brian Smith.
3rd Place- Dennis Hanes, Ron Kennedy, Ken Radamacher and Jimmie Lucero.
Highest Score- Mike Schultz, Jessica Schultz, Amanda Steele and Nicole Shaklee.

We could not have imagined a better day but the day kept giving with a magical hole-in-one by one of our inaugural golfer/sponsors Dave Gordon!!! With that effort he won a Scotty Cameron putter. Congratulations Dave Gordon!!!! Thinking that the event could not be topped, an unexplained missing man formation flyover occurred above the clubhouse just as golfers were coming off the course, maybe you saw it as well. Those of us near and dear to this Foundation believe there may have been a little bit of Zachary in the air that day. Keep your calendar free next year for more fun and excitement with the Captain Caps Golf Tournament scheduled for July 29, 2022!
We are excited to provide an update on our organization's reach and the lives you are helping us to impact. This past spring of 2021, we awarded two scholarships to Mountain Range High School seniors: Ashlyn Hake and Matthew Amack, Westminster Public Schools scholarship, awarded to Omar Montanez, and the Adams State University athletic scholarship to Tyler Barats. Finally, we were honored to award the inaugural aviation scholarship established at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University to Ryan Smith.

The 2nd Annual Captain Caps Charity Golf Tournament on Friday August 7th, 2020 started on a beautiful sun filled morning. The golf tournament went to a tee time assignment, instead of a shotgun start. The morning started with a buzz no tournament this summer had. We had 189 golfers scheduled for the day. We wanted to make each golfer feel like it was a normal shotgun start. so we put a video together that talked about the state of the foundation and where we are headed. We also included a prayer, the playing of taps and the National Anthem. Everyone viewed the video before we sent them out them off for their round. As they teed off we had each foursone photgraphed. We also sponsored a food drive to help the local food banks. All the golfers and local citizens contributed 2 truck loads to help the local food bank. Another incredible gesture to our foundation was that other golfers who were at the golf course that day also stopped by to watch the video. We had several activities on the golf course to help raise additional funds and make the tournament exciting to bring back golfers each year. It was a long day, we had golfers on the course from 6:45am until 7:30pm. The tournament was a huge success and everyone loved the tournament and plan to come back next year. The tournament raised $25,000 for the Tailwinds of Hope Foundation, which help with our commitment of $25,000 in scholarships the Foundation awards annually. We are so thankful for the generous hearts everyone displayed by particiapating in the golf tournament. We can't wait for next years golf tournament and have already started planning for the event.
We are filled with immense gratitude from all the support received at our 2nd Annual Captain Caps Charity Golf Tournament .
Please take a look at the photos, posted on the Tailwinds of Hope Facebook page, from a truly wonderful day!
Thank you again to all who contributed!
